Record-Shattering Gala

Craig Hampson, ATB; Tracy Keith, CAHS; George CanyonOur 6th Annual Saving Lives - Changing Lives Gala, presented by ATB Financial, was a huge success! From the cocktail hour with Leroy Cassell entertaining to the closing groove of the Love Bullies, the sell-out crowd enjoyed the evening. The highlight of the event was a performance by George Canyon.

By the end of the evening, over $63,000 was raised for the animals! This is the most raised at any of our events in the history of our organization. To say we are thrilled is an understatement. We are so incredibly grateful for the community support we receive. From the donors of auction items, sponsors, volunteers and supporters, to everyone who purchased a ticket - THANK YOU SO MUCH!

Canine Boot Camp Graduates First Class

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society (CAHS) graduated their first Canine Boot Camp on March 3rd. Canine Boot Camp is a program designed to help shelter dogs become more adoptable and at the same time allow potential adopters to really get to know and love these dogs before taking them home. It was created and implemented by Executive Director, Tracy Keith. Canine Boot Camp is a concentrated obedience, agility and manners program where volunteers partner with a shelter canine to bring them to class and have numerous practice sessions with them each week.

About a half a dozen potential adopters have attended each Canine Boot Camp class. This is outstanding and we are hopeful that by getting to know these dogs, they will be more likely to take them into their homes. CAHS volunteers have noted that since starting Boot Camp the dogs are much calmer in their kennels and more relaxed. Because of the great benefit to the dogs, volunteers, and potential adopters, the CAHS is planning to continue providing Canine Boot Camp to shelter dogs.

Thank You!

Our thanks to the Cochrane Community Grant Program for funding to upgrade our Resource Centre. Thanks to this generous donation, you can be assured that our staff, volunteers and trainers have access to the most up-to-date animal behaviour and training information available.
