Updated July 10, 2010. All of our animals are sterilized before adoption.
Some animals are just special! This page features lovely pets that have pre existing health issues that will still allow them to have a good quality of life, that may or may not affect their length of life or their regular care.
Adult or senior pets that are highly bonded and have always lived their lives together are deemed “inseparable.” You can find these special animals here.
So if you are looking for someone extra special, you're in the right place!
Adoption fees for our special pets are reduced:
A special cat is $50
A special dog is $125
Inseparable cats are $200 for the pair

Daisy Duke is a friendly and affectionate girl with lots of energy to burn. Unfortunately she has been with us for quite a while, but during that time our wonderful volunteers have helped her develop good manners and social skills. Daisy Duke is a happy, energetic girl who will make an excellent running partner, as she is good on leash and already runs 5 miles with ease! She is rather partial to her toys and may be reluctant to share them with little people so would prefer a home with older children. Daisy Duke had a problem with the enamel forming on her adult teeth so had to have it removed. She has had a special sealant applied to her teeth but they will require regular brushing, an annual check-up with her vet and she will need to be fed a dental diet. Daisy Duke is a special girl with a great sense of humour and lots of love to give her new forever family. Come meet this fantastic girl today and it will be love at first sight! Jessie is a real sweetheart of a dog who thrives on attention. She was a little tubby when she first came here, but with a good diet and exercise she has managed to lose a few pounds. Jessie is an active girl and enjoys the great outdoor life, which should help her keep maintain her slimmer waistline!. She is very focused on her handler and wants to be with them all the time. Jessie is a typical border collie with strong herding instincts – she is good with cats indoors but likes to use her herding skills on outdoor cats and livestock! Jessie’s eyes do not produce enough tears, so she will require medication for them for the rest of her life. As a result of this problem, her vision is impaired but she is not blind. Jessie is a wonderful girl looking for a special home where she can receive all the love, care and attention she deserves! Jessie is priced at the new Special Needs fee $125! |

Molly and Charlie are bonded siblings. They've been happily together and we are hoping to be able to adopt them out together. Molly is the shy sibling who looks up to her big brother for love and courage. She loves to play and chase anything that moves around. Charlie is the big bro who likes to paw his water and also loves to play with anything that will give chase. Both Molly and Charlie like cuddles and being brushed. Sherman is a great dog who arrived here a little worse for wear with a broken leg. The fracture was repaired with a bone plate and has healed well, although he may require pain medication from time to time. Sherman is an energetic guy who enjoys his exercise, but possibly won’t be able to go on long hikes – his new people will need to see how he does. He knows his basic obedience and is a quick learner who is eager to please. Sherman is a playful boy who loves his toys, especially tennis balls and rope toys and would prefer a home with older children who can join in his fun and games. He is currently being fed a hypoallergenic diet which he will need to continue on to help keep his coat in tip top condition. Denali is a really sweet, gentle and easy going mid-sized dog. She has had surgery on her right knee and has spent time recovering in one of our wonderful foster homes. Denali has loved her time there but it is now time for her to find her forever home. She is in the final stages of her rehabilitation so her new family will need to continue with her exercise restrictions until mid-July. Denali is a very affectionate girl, who loves people and is very trusting. She enjoys looking out of the window watching the world go by and relaxing on the veranda with her people. Denali is a playful girl who loves her chew and puzzle toys - the treat she manages to extract from them are a real bonus too! She is good with dogs and cats and has been around birds but sees any free flying birds as her play thing! Denali is a quick learner who is working on her manners and would probably enjoy classes once her knee is fully healed. Denali also has mild hip dysplasia which should be relatively easy to manage with glucosamine and a therapeutic joint diet. She will need to maintain her current trim figure and her exercise will need to be kept consistent from day to day.
